Beauty as Welcome: Rev. Prof. Giovanni Emidio Palaia Visits GNAMC

The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea had the honour of welcoming Rev. Prof. Giovanni Emidio Palaia, Professor of Personal Ethics at LUMSA and a university lecturer in Rome and Milan, on the occasion of a stage in his important project, active since 2022 in Milan, Florence, Naples and Rome, “La Bellezza che accoglie” (Beauty as Welcome). Developed in collaboration with L’Osservatore di strada, a supplement to L’Osservatore Romano, the project seeks to give a voice to people who are marginalised or wounded by life, to those who are ill, or who are experiencing periods of vulnerability and suffering.

The initiative is rooted in a profound commitment to social inclusion and centres on the idea of a beauty that is not merely aesthetic, but also capable of offering welcome and healing. The project aims to facilitate access to culture for those who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to experience places of art and knowledge. Through this synergy, engagement with art becomes a tangible means of support, sharing and “care” for the soul. Below are a selection of photographs and a short video capturing moments from the experience shared at GNAMC.
