The Orizzonte Mediazione (Mediation Horizon) project was conceived by the Educational Services of the Galleria Nazionale and is developed in collaboration with the ASL Roma 2 Department of Mental Health – UOSD Early Intervention in Developmental Age – “Navigando i confini” Therapeutic Day Centre for Adolescents. The project also involves cultural mediators from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma, with which the Galleria Nazionale has developed cultural mediation projects since 2018.
Through a series of participatory, dialogue-based sessions, following the established approach of cultural mediation, the young participants from ASL Roma 2 will learn to observe and interpret the museum’s works of art, identifying the emotions they convey and translating them into drawings, collages or free-form compositions.
Supported by cultural mediators, participants will learn throughout the year the communication and interpersonal skills that underpin cultural mediation: an active, participatory form of communication that moves beyond the traditional model of the didactic guided tour.
The project aims to strengthen the autonomy of the young people from the ASL Roma 2 Department of Mental Health, helping them to recognise themselves as active and integral members of the museum community. Within a broad vision of inclusion and integration, the museum not only welcomes them into its spaces, but also enables them to play an active role in its activities and educational mission.
